Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Planners parties.

Fans can expect finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
