The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT. Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session. The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the fence. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight. The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
